I'll Take His Advice

Curious George to Big Brother "Let's laugh all day!".

I am starting this blog as a way to document the funny and amazing things Curious George (my son with high functioning autism) shares with us regularly; along with all that I continually learn about life on the spectrum.

COMING OUT OF HIS SHELL

Although my son Curious George and our family have struggled for years, he was diagnosed in September 2010 with PDD-NOS for a unique presentation for Aspergers which is on the autism spectrum. Basically that means that he has Aspergers and at one time had a speech delay. With the new diagnosing criteria he is now labeled with ASD-Autism Spectrum Disorder.

For much of his life, Curious George would get so overwhelmed that he could not tell us what was wrong, why he was upset, ask for help or what he needed. Instead he would just shutdown - drop to the floor, turtle, hide under desks, tables, chairs -whatever was around. If we were confused as parents, how did he feel?
